Growing to match demand
As this thriving family business continues to grow, so must its production area. So when it was time to develop and expand the production facilities, careful thought was given to the flooring options suitable for their particular product.
Two aspects were of paramount importance. Not only did the flooring need to be extremely resilient in terms of hot and cold temperatures, but it also needed to have a hygienic finish.
As lots of water would be used in the area, for production purposes and for cleaning down, a new drainage system would need to be installed.
Robust temperature resistant flooring solutions by Ultrasyntec
When discussions began with Ultrasyntec regarding the choice of flooring system, it was pointed out that a 316 stainless steel grade drainage channel would be the best option for the following reasons.
- No corners or inside cavities to harbour bacterial growth
- Smooth stainless-steel construction for efficient flow and easy cleaning
- Resistant to a wide range of cleaning chemicals
- Unaffected by high temperature cleaning or steam disinfection
- Durable – designed to last for the lifetime of the building
Once the drainage system was agreed, the Ultrasyntec team advised that the best way to avoid standing water was to install a fast cure, high strength sand/cement screed with a fall from the wall sides straight to the new stainless steel drain channel.
The screed would then be topped off using a heavy duty, food grade polyurethane screed at a thickness of 9mm thickness. As with the drain, the floor and coved skirting would withstand all the harsh conditions that occur in a food production area.
Over a period of just 10 days, the entire floor was completed and ready to hand back to Tubzee.
