The UltraSyntec team is frequently contacted by customers seeking the most heavy-duty flooring solutions on the market due to their operating environments or processes.
Heavy duty resin screeds provide advanced levels of impact resistance and slip resistance. In addition, they are recognised as certified HACCP flooring solutions. Installing a heavy duty resin screed will demonstrate to food hygiene inspectors a level of commitment and experience when they are inspecting food and beverage producer/retailer premises.
UltraSyntec recently completed the installation of heavy duty resin screed flooring at Primordial Brewing Co Ltd in South East London, providing the brewing business with advanced levels of durability combined with the hygiene benefits which are vital for the industry in which they operate.
What is Heavy Duty Resin Screed?
A heavy duty resin screed is a three pack liquid screed complete with dense aggregates, forming one of the most hard-wearing resin flooring systems on the market.
The system requires a 12-24 hour curing time, dependent on air temperature, and can be formulated using both epoxy and polyurethane resins to match differing operational and process requirements.
Heavy duty resin screed flooring offers two options:-
- A flat textured surface which, once fully cured, has a density strength of >50ⁿ₂mm – the same strength as power floated concrete.
- A smooth flat finish creating a tough, easy to clean floor available in a variety of colours.
What preparation is required?
For environments requiring heavy duty resin screeds, the UltraSyntec team often finds that existing floor coverings are defective.
As a result, we complete rigorous heavy mechanical preparation activities prior to the application of any heavy duty resin screed system.
Our team begins by removing any existing floor coverings, followed by heavy mechanical preparation using a diamond grinding machine attached to an industrial vacuum.
This minimises the potential for dusting; we recognise the significant issues dust contamination can cause for our clients, particularly within the food, beverage and medical sectors. In many cases, operations can continue in adjacent areas without disruption.
The UltraSyntec team may also request clients or facilities managers to complete some simple preparation activities. These can include removing all non-fixed furniture and other objects from the area, enabling our operatives to install the system as quickly and smoothly as possible.
UltraSyntec also requests clients to refrain from routine or planned washdowns prior to heavy duty resin screed application, as the area must be completely dry prior to the process.
How is Heavy Duty screed installed?
Heavy duty resin screed is installed by hand, using trowels, at a thickness of 6mm to 9mm, depending on the environment and the application where the flooring will be operational.
Applications
Heavy duty resin screed is ideally suited for environments such as food and beverage production, restaurants, and kitchens, as the systems installed by UltraSyntec are HACCP-certified.
Heavy duty resin screeds are also recommended for more aggressive environments requiring robust solutions such as slaughterhouses, heavy engineering works, aerospace, stadiums and other areas subject to heavy duty vehicular traffic.
For heavy duty resin screed applications, the UltraSyntec team will generally specify Resdev’s Pumadur RT and Pumadur HF for the textured polyurethane screed options, or Pumadur MF for the smooth polyurethane screed finish.
However, we also specify heavy duty resin screed products from other leading specialist manufacturers, dependent upon application.
