Practical and Cost Effective Warehouse Flooring Solutions

Warehouse floor of a food production company

When a leading food producer approached Ultrasyntec for direction and suggestions regarding one of their warehouse floors, the team faced a difficult issue.

The area in question, measuring a total of 1984m2, was currently used for storing food packaging, manufacturing equipment and other items.

Unfortunately, a previous regulatory audit had resulted in the client being instructed to have all concrete floors sealed. This was in an effort to avoid cross contamination from packaging and other materials.

Finding a cost effective interim warehouse flooring solution

The intention was to transform this entire area into a food production-ready site by 2020. This would require spending a substantial amount of money at a later date to make the site suitable for producing food for human consumption. The Ultrasyntec team always tries to avoid spending client money twice!

For this interim solution, Ultrasyntec recommended a full captive shot blast to clean the tired old floor. This would remove any historic oil and substance spillages. Once this was complete, the team followed up with localised floor and joint repairs. They used a mixture of robust polyurethane mortars and epoxy fillers to bring the surface up to standard.

Maintaining existing storage capabilities during the process

Work on the entire area was split into two halves. This meant the existing packaging and machinery could be retained within the space whilst work was carried out. When the substrate had been suitable prepared, Ultrasyntec applied two coats of Resdev’s Pumaseal PC Silk. This is a hard-wearing polyurethane sealant supplied in an attractive and practical mid-grey colour.

All roller shutter doorway areas and fire escape exits were treated with a slip-resistant dressing for enhanced health and safety Furthermore all RSJ stations were prepared and coated to a height of two metres using a safety yellow epoxy paint for added visibility.

Value for money flooring

The Ultrasyntec solution provided the client with a cost effective and hard wearing floor. It would be capable of giving significantly more than the two year life required before the site would be transformed again.
