Showroom Flooring Project for Howarth Timber

Howarth Timber is a major supplier to the construction industry, dealing in everything from timber products to bathroom suites. When the company wanted to refurbish the showroom at their Wakefield branch, they awarded the project to Yorkshire-based specialist contracting organisation Vision Infrastructure.

The main customer showroom, which was around 400m² in area, featured an old vinyl floor that had been delaminating for some years and was in need of some care and attention. Vision Infrastructure turned to Ultrasyntec for advice on suitable flooring surfaces.

Performance and durability with resin flooring systems

Howarth Timber had originally liked the look and finish of the original vinyl floor but was not impressed with how quickly the finish had failed in this environment, in particular the welded joints between each individual sheet of vinyl. In discussions with Vision and the client, Ultrasyntec proposed an alternative solution – a resin flooring option replicating a vinyl finish but capable of offering a service life well in excess of ten years.

As the existing floor was aged and uneven, Ultrasyntec specified a 15mm liquid self-levelling screed. When cured this would leave a flat, smooth floor creating the perfect base for the selected resin finish.

Decorative and hard-wearing chemical-resistant resin

The Ultrasyntec team began by applying two coats of Resdev’s Pumashield epoxy coating in an attractive mid-grey colour. Following the application of the second coat, the client’s chosen decorative flakes were dispersed across the floor area and left to cure overnight.

The following day, all excess flakes were removed using an industrial vacuum, followed by two coats of clear Resdev Pumadur DD Silk to seal in the flakes and create an aesthetically pleasing finish with strength and durability. This flooring finish is extremely hard-wearing, with advanced levels of chemical resistance and stability to UV light. The proposed life span of the flooring solution in this application is approximately 15 years.

Longevity and slip resistance

The finished result yields the look and feel of a vinyl floor with the longevity of a resin flooring system which is easy to clean, seamless and slip-resistant, giving Howarth Timber the best possible value for money for this project.
