Tanked Floor Solution for Compleat Food Group

Recently, the UltraSyntec team was tasked by Compleat Food Group to play a role in refurbishing their production facility. This involved creating a tanked floor in line with food hygiene specifications.

UltraSyntec have worked alongside Compleat Food Group for the past two decades. They have delivered outstanding projects, on time and on budget, and have valued the opportunity to establish a very positive commercial relationship.

Compleat Food Group specialises in the production and packaging of a range of delicatessen food products for some of the country’s largest food retailers. For this project, they contacted UltraSyntec as they planned to make significant alterations to their production line. The objective was to improve and expand manufacturing flow by repurposing their existing storage unit into a modern, fully-fledged production area with a quick turnaround of product.

The importance of a tanked floor for food manufacturing

A tanked flooring specification is paramount within a food production area, ensuring bacteria cannot become trapped, eliminating the risk of food contamination. It also provides a surface that is easy to washdown, enabling the area to comply with the most stringent food hygiene regulations.

A tanked floor solution is also an extremely heavy-duty flooring specification. It will last for many years and allow operations to remain constant and undisrupted.

The UltraSyntec team began by preparing the area using a three-phase diamond grinder to ensure the substrate was prepared correctly. This process created a suitable key for fresh resin application. Once the substrate had been ground, we removed all dust and debris with a CFM 137 industrial vacuum.

With substrate preparation complete, UltraSyntec installed ACO Stainless steel drainage channels. This created the right environment to allow the floor to be washed down easily and efficiently, and excess liquid could drain away.

The team then moved on to the flooring specification itself. This consisted of trowel applying Resdev’s Pumadur RT, which is a heavy-duty polyurethane screed at 6mm.

Using a ‘bird’s beak’ trim to create the ideal finish

Once this flooring material had been laid correctly and allowed to cure, the coving was prepared by installing a stainless-steel ‘bird’s beak’ trim, followed by installation of the coved skirting. This was done by trowel applying Resdev’s Pumadur CG at 100mm into the bird’s beak trim to form a fully tanked floor.

The project covers an area of 820m₂ and was completed in a professional and timely fashion by the UltraSyntec team. Compleat Food Group were happy with all works carried out and looks forward to future projects.
