Ultrasyntec Ltd, have recently been instructed to carry out the flooring work at Velocity Composites in Burnley.
Velocity Composites are a specialist engineering company, serving predominantly the aerospace composites industry. The main contractor for this project was Barnfield Construction.
An area of 1300 sq m of power floated concrete was mechanically prepared using vacuum (minimal dust) captive blast tracking system. All edges were prepared using a hand held diamond grinding machine. This was attached to a CFM 137 industrial vac to release minimal dust into the environment.
All movement joints were filled with a polysulphide jointing material.
Flooring preparation vital
As the concrete had been installed recently it was decided by all parties to conduct a moisture reading test of the concrete slab. The test came back at 82% Relative Humidity (RH). Any reading above 75% RH meant that a Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) had to be installed prior to the epoxy coating being installed. Correct preparation was vital.
Once the (DPM) had been installed two coat’s of high build epoxy floor coating were then applied. This resulted in a hygienic, durable, easily cleaned surface which has provided a first class working environment in this specialist composites industry.
